Simple Accent Walls

There are so many simple and cost effective ways to add contrast and dimension to any room. DIY projects are some of my favorites and these are easy enough for any of you DIYers to tackle with a little bit of elbow grease and imagination. Check out these fun ways to spruce up your walls…

Wallpaper

Okay before you scoff at the word ‘wallpaper’ please remember that it is not 1950 and wallpaper has come a VERY long way since. Even the installation methods are much easier than they once were. There are so many different colors, patterns and textures of wallpaper available today and they can add so much charm to any room.

Whether you want to wallpaper the entire dining room, wallpaper a single feature wall in the powder bathroom or wallpaper the upper half of a master bedroom there are so many creative ways to add this fun feature to your home. Some of my favorite online stores to purchase wallpaper from include Serena & Lily, Wayfair, Magnolia Home Wall Coverings and McGee and Co.

Painted / Sponged Patterns

One of my newer favorite wall trends is painted or sponged on patterns and prints. It is SO easy and affordable and can make any wall go from bland to fabulous in minutes. You could create brush strokes of any size and any color your heart desires.

Whether you prefer a bold black, a neutral gray or maybe even a polka dot yellow, you can create a pattern that reflects your style! Whatever you fancy, this painted on wallpaper look is for you if you enjoy a little Saturday afternoon DIY. If you are afraid to free hand brush strokes, you could also purchase different sponge shapes and create an abstract wall of geometric patterns like this triangle wall below.

Now how easy is that? Stamp away until your wall meets your expectations!

Vinyl Wall Stickers

That’s right, wall stickers! These little babies have the power to easily jazz up a space without being labor intensive. Just peel…and stick! These polka dots are irregular in size and shape, making it super easy because the spacing doesn’t have to be perfect (unless you really want it to be). You can literally just slap them anywhere on a wall and feel like Pablo Picasso with your spontaneous sticker dots.

If your’re a little more daring you can select a more unique design. Maybe one with bumble bees, Moroccan shapes, leaves or even peonies! There are so many different options and styles to pair with your homes aesthetic. Stickers can easily elevate a space with charm, a little funk and even some color!

This simple little sticker is for those of you who don’t feel like hassling with a paint brush but still need a solution to brighten up your home. And the good news is that they are easy to remove if you ever get sick of them!

Paint

This one might seem simple or obvious but there are a lot of different ways you can spruce up a room with just good ol’ paint. The easiest way is to pick a focal wall in your room, whether it be the bed wall, a vanity wall or maybe even a gallery wall and select a darker contrasting color to make it stand out.

If you are handy you can also add molding or shiplap for added dimension to the wall. There are endless possibilities when it comes to installing adding moldings and you can certainly get creative with this one. I know all you DIYers are so imaginative!

Lastly this half painted wall is a fun trend that I first discovered while watching “Windy City Rehab”. It is literally as easy as it looks… you just stop painting and leave a rugged and rolled brush stroke wherever your heart desires. This works best when you are using high contrast colors like black and white or white. It gives the room a rustic and organic look. One that makes quite the bold and daring statement!
